Topaz is a submarine cable that will cross Vancouver and Port Alberni BC in Mie and Ibaraki in Japan. The company says the cable will be operational in 2023, providing low-latency access to various functions and increasing network providers in both areas. The cable is as wide as a garden hose and will have 16 pairs of fibers to provide a capacity of 240 Terabit per second. Google will include support for Selective Wavelength Switch (WWS). This is the first Pacific cable on the West Coast. Google has consulted and worked with various indigenous groups, as the cable will be built alongside traditional sites. Google has invested in many submarine cable projects, including one linking the United States and France. Image credit: Google Source: Google
