The Grand National Festival in Aintree started blindly as fans were back for the first time since 2019 when the Covid pandemic struck. There were seven races for race enthusiasts to get stuck, with the first race starting at 1.45pm. and the last race to be completed at 5.15 p.m. And the fans gave a fascinating spectacle all day. Millers Bank won the first game 7-1 for rider Kielan Woods and coach Alex Hales. The second bout was a dead bout between 10-11 Pied Piper and 14-1 Knight Salute, but unbelievably, Knight Salute was named the winner after a search by an aviator. Sir Alex Ferguson emerged victorious in the third clash with his Clan Des Obeaux horse which led to an exciting 13-2 victory. Fergie could not enjoy his victory in Liverpool, the seat of Man United’s tough opponent. And when discussing victory after the race, Fergie said ironically: “It’s always good to win here, mind you, we’re not used to it.” Following Fergie’s success, Epatante won the Betway Aintree 2-1 obstacle course – its seventh Grade 1. But the fourth race was full of drama as Zanahiyr fell into the final hurdle. And Zanahiyr’s fall also left Guard Your Dreams rider Sam Twiston-Davies indefinite. Fortunately, there were no injuries from the collision at the last hurdle. Late Night Pass 7-2 won the fifth match at the Randox Foxhunters ‘Open Hunters’ Steeple Chase. While the victory in The Close Brothers Red Rum Handicap Steeple Chase belonged to The Last Day 12-1. An epic race day ended with the seventh and final Goffs UK Nickel Coin Mares’ Standard Open. And that beat second favorite Ashroe Diamond 9-4. But the biggest shock of the match was that the top four consisted of underdogs Lutinebella 50-1, and Malina Jamila 125-1 who completed the process in third and fourth place respectively. Supporters can prepare for another day with thrills and leaks tomorrow, when the action continues before Saturday. Friday’s events will also consist of seven races that will take place from 1.45 to 17.15.
