“I will provide up-to-date documentation of the relevant communications, as well as photographic data on my child’s injuries in 2019, in court at the appropriate time,” said Sheena Greitens.
Greitens’s lawyers again denied Sheena Greitens allegations of abuse on Tuesday.
“Here’s the point, we hoped he would have realized he was wrong,” said Timothy Parlatore, Eric Greitens’s lawyer. “This seems to indicate that it is really going to double.”
Parlatore said Sheena Greitens lied in her files and claimed – without providing any evidence – that she was working with GOP political agents to thwart her ex-husband’s campaign.
Gretens and his lawyers have cited allegations of abuse by Cina Gretens as part of an effort to undermine his Senate nomination by top Republicans.
Sheena Greitens testified in court that “none of these allegations are true” and that “she did not discuss the contents of my affidavit with anyone other than my lawyer until after her initial testimony” on March 16.
“When his political future is in danger, he becomes irregular, undisturbed, coercive and threatening,” Sheena Greitens said of her ex-husband in the affidavit. “He accuses me of things that are untrue and creates conspiracy theories for me that I am collaborating with his ‘enemies’, while I have not done anything like that.”
Parlatore, Greiten’s lawyer, said his client had emails from the time period indicating that the injuries to Greitens’s son came from a “roughhouse with his brother”.
“This whole thing is doubled by the same lies,” Parlatore said.
The former couple is fighting for the custody of their two children. Sheena Greitens tried to move the custody case from Missouri to Texas, where she now lives and works as a university professor.
The testimony comes ahead of a May hearing on the case. In her most recent testimony, Sheena Greitens says she declined to comment to reporters about the case and limited her comments in the courtroom – but “it will be difficult to do so” if asked where she should be judged. case is not resolved until May 27, “because I expect to have to spend two months of untrue public attacks on my character, motherhood and professionalism.”
Greitens’s surprise fall from power in 2018 came as he faced calls for referral from the GOP-controlled state legislature and a criminal charge – a breach of privacy – related to a 2015 case in which the former his hairdresser claimed to have tied her up. he forced her to have oral sex and threatened to blackmail her with partially nude photos to cover up their case.
Gretens admitted the case but denied the allegations of blackmail. He was separately charged with another felony – falsification of computer data – for allegedly abusing the list of donors of a veterans charity for his 2016 campaign as governor.
The criminal charges against Gretens were dropped. A former FBI agent investigating the blackmail charges was later charged with forgery and falsification of evidence. When an Missouri ethics panel investigated Gratens’s campaign misconduct, it found no evidence of wrongdoing, but fined the campaign for not reporting in-kind contributions.
Greitens’s accuser never denied her allegations of sexual misconduct.
Sheena Greitens said in her affidavit in March that Eric Greitens had admitted to taking the photo that led to her privacy breach, but “threatened to take legal action if I ever revealed this to anyone.” ”
He also claimed that in the spring and summer of 2018, “Eric repeatedly threatened to commit suicide if I did not provide him with specific public support.”
Earlier this year, the former governor told CNN that he did “absolutely” nothing with his former hairdresser and claimed that he had resigned for his two children.
“It was what I had to do for the people I love the most, especially my boys, given these terrible lies and the enormous pressure on my children,” he said.
But Sheena Greitens withdrew that explanation in her March 16 court statement, saying their young children “were unaware of the scandal and would like to stay that way until they grow up.”
She added: “I have privately asked Eric to stop introducing false and misleading information about our marriage and divorce to the public in his quest for political office,” she told the court.
Allegations of abuse refer to the March affidavit
In a March affidavit filed in Circuit Court of Boone County, Missouri as part of her attempt to move a Texas custody case, Sheena Greitens said she was so scared of her ex-husband that she tried to restrict his access to guns and began sleeping in her children’s room out of concern for their safety. “In early June 2018, I feared for the safety of myself and our children in our home, which was quite isolated due to Eric’s unstable and coercive behavior,” he said. “This behavior included physical violence against our children, such as handcuffing our then three-year-old son to the table in front of me and pulling him by the hair.” Sheena Greitens said she and others were so concerned about Eric Greitens’ behavior that they restricted his access to firearms on three occasions. She said she was concerned about the “escalation of physical violence” and eventually, “I started sleeping in my children’s room just to try to keep them safe”, according to her affidavit. In a statement, Eric Gretens denied the allegations. “Being a father is the joy of my life and my most important responsibility,” he said. “I will continue to love and care for my beautiful sons with all my being, and that includes fighting for the truth and against completely fabricated, baseless allegations.” His lawyer asked the judge to seal the detention case. In her affidavit, Sheena Greitens made a series of allegations of verbal threats and physical abuse against both herself and their children. He described how Eric Gretens allegedly threatened to use his political connections to tarnish his ex-wife’s reputation. In one case, he claimed that Eric Gretens “knocked me down and confiscated my cell phone, my wallet and my keys so I could not call for help or free myself and our children,” according to testimony of the court. In another 2019 incident, one of the children returned from a visit with Eric Gretens with a swollen face, bleeding gums and a loose tooth, according to her testimony in court. “He said Dad hit him; however, Eric said it was rough and it was an accident,” Sheena Greitens said in her affidavit. At one point, Sheena Greitens said she tried to leave with the children. “When I told Eric about my plans, he threatened to come to the airport and arrest me for kidnapping and abusing children, saying that because of his power as a former Governor who had supported law enforcement, the police would support him and not “He believed in me and I would lose our children,” said Sheena Greitens, according to the affidavit. Sheena and Eric Greitens divorced in 2020. Greitens’s campaign manager Dylan Johnson said: “His ex-wife has been involved in a last-ditch effort to take revenge on her ex-husband. Although she knows the press will violently repeat her false allegations, Eric has always been a “A wonderful dad who loves his boys and always puts them first and that’s why he applies for full custody of his children.” In a statement, Sheena Greitens stood on her affidavit and said she would provide evidence and documentation if requested by the court. “My only interest is the best for my two children and for the last four years I have made every effort to keep these family matters private to protect them,” she said in a statement. “I am not interested in claiming this issue anywhere other than the courtroom.” CNN’s Gabby Orr contributed to this report.
