He has been detained for questioning. Detective Inspector Steve McGrath said: “This is a significant recovery and it goes without saying that in the wrong hands, they could have been used to cause serious injury or worse to our communities. “I want to reassure these communities that every day of the year, Merseyside police carry out warrants, stop searches, arrests and land searches to find weapons that are circulating and remove them from our streets. “We have a special Firearms Investigation Team whose job is to find weapons, take them off the streets and examine them forensically, so that those who have handled and used them can be brought to justice for their crimes. Through targeted operations throughout Merseyside, our officers prevent criminals involved in serious and organized crime who are prepared to stockpile and use such weapons. “Every person we recapture and every perpetrator behind bars removes the risk of causing more fear, intimidation or harm here in Merseyside. In addition to conducting this activity and gathering information, supporting communities is an absolutely vital part of our efforts to protect the public. “The information given to us helped us identify weapons and arrest perpetrators, and I would ask the public to continue to be our eyes and ears.” People living on the street said police cordoned off and stopped people driving in or out. People also took pictures of a forensic police scene set up outside an apartment building and said the army was present. Detectives were seen knocking on doors and conducting searches in the area.
