Jessica Oakley tells CTV News that her boyfriend had decided to take his daughter and 11-year-old girlfriend to get ice cream around 9pm. Oakley says the girls were on their way to their mansion on Federal Avenue when a car stopped and a man in a ski mask threw a gun. He says the man shot several times in their direction. I guess the car got up and stopped, and saw the gun, and then he shouted at the girls to “get off”, and they got off and went behind his car door and then I started looking down and all I caught was the “The car had to leave quickly,” Oakley recalls. Oakley, who was upstairs at the time, looked outside and saw the 11-year-old girl lying on the ground. She says the child was shot in the lower part of her body. He helped her in and called 911. “I helped her, I put her at home. “I turned her over – she was shot in the bum – I overturned her and started pushing her butt … on the 911 phone and waiting for them to show up.” Oakley says the child was taken to hospital and is recovering from surgery. “As far as I know, he is doing well now,” he says. Oakley does not know why they were targeted, but believes it may have been a case of misidentification. “We have no problems with anyone, we are quite calm. We have grown up now. “We have families and we have children.”
