A mixture of chemicals caused high levels of fumes and vapors in the Credit Suisse building in Cabot Square, the London Fire Department (LFB) announced. The on-site wellness center is run by Nuffield Health. The company has asked questions to Credit Suisse, which has been approached for comment. Dave Hill, commander of the LFB station on the spot, said: “Crews swept the building and found high measurements. “Firefighters have ventilated the building and are monitoring the level of fumes. “We have evacuated about 900 people from the building as a precaution.” The brigade was called at 9 in the morning and the incident ended at 12.30 with people returning to the building and roadblocks lifted. Two fire engines from Millwall and Poplar Stations and two firefighters from Bethnal Green and Euston were called to the scene. The incident comes two weeks after 29 people were taken to hospital when a large amount of chlorine gas was released in an accident at a water body center in London’s Olympic Park. Some of the injured were swimmers of a group of parents and infants who were in the children’s pool at the time of the incident. About 200 people were evacuated from the center. At least nine construction workers at a nearby construction site were also treated at the site.
