The number of patients treated with confirmed COVID-19 as well as the number of patients admitted to hospital for COVID-19-related reasons is slightly reduced in the latest update from Algoma Public Health. Inpatients with confirmed COVID have dropped by two since Wednesday’s update to a total of 19, while the number of patients admitted to hospital for COVID-related reasons has also dropped by two to seven. The number of ICU patients with confirmed COVID is currently at five, which is an increase of one in Thursday’s update, while the number of ICU patients admitted for COVID-related reasons has dropped to one. The number of active cases in the area is currently 442, which is an increase of 16 from Wednesday. The APH reports 57 new confirmed cases in Algoma and 41 new cases resolved. The number of confirmed cases since the beginning of 2022 is currently 4,857, with a total of 7,061 since the beginning of the pandemic. The number of solved cases in the area since the beginning of the pandemic is 6,619. Note: As of December 31, 2021, the province has limited PCR testing for COVID-19 to higher-risk populations. In addition, some people with a mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek tests. Algoma Public Health states that the confirmed case numbers underestimate the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma area.
