A house fire at the Adams Lake Indian Band shelter in Shuswap claimed two lives Friday night. The band said in a statement from the family that Kyle Phelps and their partner Nicky Mueller had died in the blaze. Ambulances were called shortly before midnight to the scene of the trailer fire on Wagon Street in Niskonlith. No patients were taken to hospital and BC medical examiners were called, says BC Emergency Services spokeswoman Justine Ma. The group confirms that Lake Adams Fire Department, BC Ambulance Service and Chase RCMP responded to the structure fire. The house was completely flooded when the first correspondents arrived. The remains of the victims were discovered after the fire was extinguished, Chase RCMP said in a press release. The causes of the fire are being investigated, however there is no evidence to suggest it was suspicious.
