The Idaho Supreme Court has temporarily blocked a new law in the state that would ban abortions after six weeks of pregnancy from taking effect later this month. On Friday, the court issued a decree approving a review proposal in response to a petition against the law, which was due to take effect on April 22nd. The order was signed by the head of the Idaho Supreme Court, G. Richard Bevan. OKLAHOMA HOME ALMOST PASSES ABORTION PROHIBITION Idaho became the first state to pass a law based on a Texas law banning abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy, when Republican Gov. Brad Little signed the measure last month. Like Texas law, the Idaho bill imposes a ban allowing individuals to go to state court against individuals who perform such illegal abortions. The bill includes exceptions for rape, incest and medical emergencies. Rapists can not be prosecuted under the law, but relatives of a rapist could. “I stand in solidarity with all Idaho residents who seek to protect the lives of their premature babies,” Little wrote at the time of signing a letter to Idaho Vice President Janis McGasin, who is also president. The state last year passed a law banning abortions for six weeks, but required a favorable federal court decision in a similar case to take effect, and that did not happen. The measure was passed by the Senate with 28-6 and the Parliament with 51-14 without the support of the Democrats. Three Republicans in Parliament voted against the measure. Republican lawmakers in at least 12 states have introduced similar legislation drafted under Texas abortion law. Fox News’ Jon Brown and the Associated Press contributed to this article.
