A woman is accidentally murdered at her wedding during celebrations gone wrong. Mahvash Leghaei, 24, must have thought her wedding in Firuzabad, Iran would be the happiest day of her life – but the venue quickly turned into a crime scene. He was understood to have just tied the knot when a guest, believed to be the groom’s cousin, fired the high-powered hunting rifle without a permit. In a tragic turn of events, the bullet – the second of two fired – appeared to go straight through her skull before injuring two other guests. A cultural practice in parts of the Balkans, Russia and the Middle East, firing a gun during celebrations sometimes results in accidental deaths or serious injuries. The attacker has been identified as a 36-year-old man, but was not named by local media. The man fled the area but police called to the scene located him, still holding his rifle. The 24-year-old’s killer is said to be the groom’s cousin (Image: Newsflash) Colonel Mehdi Jokar, a police spokesman, said: “We had an emergency call about a shooting at a wedding hall in Firuzabad city and officers were dispatched immediately. “Officers discovered that someone had fired a shot with a hunting rifle as part of a local nomadic tradition. “Unfortunately due to the crowd and poor control of the gun by the individual, he managed to shoot three people, two men and the bride.” Ms Leghaei was a social worker who helped drug users overcome their addictions. The woman later died in hospital (Image: Newsflash) Following the incident, she ended up in a coma and later died in hospital, with her organs donated as per her wishes. Her uncle said she had decided to get an organ donor card just three months ago. It is not yet clear what consequences her killer will face, but firing a gun at weddings, while common, is still illegal in Iran.
