If you missed it, JoJo – who was nominated for the social media favorite star at the event – shared a video on Sunday informing her followers that she had not been invited.

“Many of you ask me why I’m not at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards tonight and the answer is very simple – I was not invited. “I’m not sure why, but I just did not receive an invitation,” she said in an excerpt from her Instagram page.

She wrote in the caption of the video, “I do not want anyone to think that it was my choice not to go.” I just did not receive an invitation 🙁 “, before continuing her story:” Someone tagged me in something – they used my song “One Chance”. My song made the cut, but not me “.

Fans were surprised to learn that JoJo had not been invited to the awards show, given her long-standing relationship with Nickelodeon. She became closely associated with the brand after signing a major talent deal with them in 2017, making her – as her website reads – a member of the “Nickelodeon family”.

With that in mind, a bunch of supportive followers flooded JoJo’s recent Instagram comments with polite words of praise and encouragement after learning that she had not been invited to this year’s KCAs.

“You are a class act. They completely lost @itsjojosiwa, no problem for you. Dancing with the Stars’ wrote Emma Slater. YouTuber Olivia Jade echoed, “the sweetness of their loss.”

One user commented, “Your name is Nickelodeon and you were nominated ??? It does not make sense that it is so sad.” Another wrote: “You made Nickelodeon what it is today … how funny!”

While expressing their frustration at Nickelodeon, several users noticed that this was the first year that JoJo had not been invited to their event, before wondering if a change in her public image might have played a role in their decision.

Last January, JoJo shared a moving video that confirmed she was coming out. Shortly afterwards, she made public her relationship with athlete Kylie Prew – although they both divorced after less than a year of dating – and has since used her platform to openly support the new LGBTQ +.

In fact, just last year, JoJo made history as part of the first same-sex couple dancing with the Stars and has openly referred to its influence on its demographics, which are largely young Nickelodeon viewers.

“They also ask me a lot, ‘Your demographics are so small that you are worried about telling your gay kids’.” I honestly feel that I was put on this earth to be a role model for children and to let all the children of the world know that loving everyone as they are, no matter what it is that I will always believe in and share ». wrote in an Instagram post earlier this year.

A few days ago, JoJo made her debut a huge change in her physical image as she cut her ponytail with her signature, now shorter. “HAPPY”, she wrote next to a selfie that shows her new style.

In light of all this, many users have speculated that Nickelodeon did not intentionally invite JoJo to the awards show in an attempt to distance themselves from its new image.

“Something about Nickelodeon not inviting Jojo Siwa to the Kids Choice Awards this year after she went out and cut her hair short is rubbing me the wrong way,” one user wrote.

“You all literally got the best representation and the best model you could have for lgbtq + youth and threw it aside to just express who it is. shame on you @Nickelodeon “, another wrote on Twitter.

But the reaction took a different turn as JoJo herself went online to repost a bunch of tweets from users calling for Nickelodeon to come out.

She initially shared a tweet from a fan who wrote: “The only year @itsjojosiwa was not invited to the Kids’ Choice Awards is when she goes out and cuts her hair ????? Sus @Nickelodeon. ”

Retweeting another a little later, JoJo showed her applause for a follower who wrote: “She was obsessed with teenage celebrities who take nothing from their employment network and refuse to be anything other than themselves. “Being connected to a children’s channel does not mean that you have to stop being yourself.”

JoJo then retweeted a series of reports from various stores, underlining her lack of invitation to the awards show, before continuing to like many tweets from users expressing their frustration with Nickelodeon.

The Dancer moms The alum initially liked the tweet of a fan who said that they were “boycotting” the Kids’ Choice Awards completely, before he continued to press the heart button on someone who called Nickelodeon to be treated as a “brand”.

“She’s a person who’s not a brand… to treat her like that. Going out @itsjojosiwa and cutting her hair does not change what it is [and] what he has [done] for your company… to do better @Nickelodeon “, another read.

JoJo had previously expressed the feeling that she was being treated as a “brand” by Nickelodeon, after calling them last September because they did not let her perform any of her new original songs on her tour.

“I’m going on tour in January. My movie musical has just been released (with 6 new original songs) N Nickelodeon told me today that I am not allowed to perform / add any of the movie songs to my show. These are MY songs, MY voice, MY writing; Do you think it’s right ??? “he wrote on Twitter.

“Working for a company as a real person who is only treated as a brand is fun until it is not,” he added.
