Dobbs teamed up with Sirius’ Zig Fracassi and NFL Rewind’s Alex Marvez to remember Haskins. “Dwayne was a terrific young man,” Dobbs told the show. “As you said, yesterday’s news really made things difficult for the sports world and especially for his teammates.” Haskins was killed when he was struck by a vehicle as he tried to cross a freeway in Florida on Saturday morning. The investigation into his death remains ongoing. Dobbs revealed that the extent of their friendship went beyond spending the 2021 season together on the Steelers roster, and that as Dobbs grew up he served as one of Haskins’s mentors. “For me, I was Dwayne’s mentor when I was in college and he was in high school at Elite 11. So I saw when he got engaged in Maryland at the time. We were very close to that point. It was awesome to see him grow and mature not only as a player, but also as a player on and off the field from the time he was 18 until he became a teammate at 24. He did a long way. “ A four-star recruit, Haskins initially promised to finish high school in Maryland, but moved to Ohio after the dismissal of then Terps coach Randy Enchal. In the state of Ohio, Haskins had a 2018 season for record books, dropping 50 touchdowns while leading the Buckeyes to a 13-1 season. He was named the MVP of the Rose Bowl 2019, throwing three touchdowns to victory. As Ben Roethlisberger noted, Dobbs admired Haskins’ raw talent. “He was a huge talent. I think Ben Ben said it better. “He could throw a football through a car wash and the ball would not even get wet. He could move it.” This talent made him the 15th choice of the 2019 NFL Draft, spending his last 1.5 years in Washington before being released. Pittsburgh signed him after the 2020 season and Haskins was working to rebuild his career in a less stressful environment like the one offered by the Steelers. For Dobbs, what he will remember most is not the strength of his hand. He will be the type of man and man that Huskins was. “As you can see with everyone [social media posts], his energy was contagious. He always had a smile on his face. He was always positive with his teammates, he aroused them and he really wanted to see everyone else succeed around him. Not only other players but also other generals. I thought that was what made such an impression on me. The world of soldiers, obviously only one person plays, but with his energy, he always wanted to see other people succeed. “Either you were in the same room with him or if you were across the field.” Dobbs was clearly influenced by his friendship with Haskins. Along with everyone else who knew him, Dobbs will carry a heavy heart for a long time. A day passed…. My prayers are with the Haskins family. We are all surprised by Dwayne’s loss. Rest Simba. It was my honor to call you friend and teammate. 🦁 pic.twitter.com/QZXxdCDKF5 – Josh Dobbs (@ josh_dobbs1) April 10, 2022
