A judge on the state Supreme Court ruled Friday that the city had no right to cancel Trump’s contract to operate the Ferry Point golf course. Mayor Bill de Blasio had canceled the deal after the Capitol Uprising on January 6, 2021, arguing that Trump could not attract golf tournaments. In her ruling and her order filed Friday, Judge Debra James said there was nothing in the contract that required a tournament – only that the city would share in any revenue. This means that either Trump will continue to run the course, or the city will have to pay him to leave. Trump’s son Eric said they would stay. “The judge did not buy their nonsense and this is a well-reasoned and appropriate decision and we look forward to running the best golf course for years to come,” said Eric Trump. De Blasio tried to freeze Trump from all the city’s contracts. The Department of Parks had reassigned Ferry Point to an overseas operator, Bobby Jones Links, prompting Trump to submit an Article 78 to the city’s motion. It is not clear how much the cancellation of Bobby Jones’s contract will cost the city. Trump will continue to run the golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus in the Bronx, said the former president’s son. Andrew Theodorakis / New York Post “We look forward to running the best golf course in years to come,” Eric Trump said after the decision. Andrew Theodorakis / New York Post James issued a temporary restraining order last fall, allowing the agency to resume operations, and has now sent the matter back to the Parks Department. “De Blasio did this for his own political theater,” said Eric Trump. “He lost a lot of time and resources of the city for his own vendetta. “It’s a shame for New York and everyone is happy he left.” Eric Trump said he was on his way to the Bronx to congratulate the staff – 150 people who would be out of work all winter if the restaurant closed for the winter, as the other pilot would. The golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus is now open, but was closed for the winter to allow the grass to “rest” and maintain the course in the manner approved by his great golf course.
