This is according to a Famitsu report from the event for the 20th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts this weekend held in Tokyo, Japan. According to the post, the KH4 footage that appears in the trailer debut is shown in real time on Unreal Engine 4. However, the game development team is currently testing Unreal Engine 5 in parallel, as claimed. “The full game will be with Unreal Engine 5 and the quality of lighting and detail will be several levels higher,” according to Famitsu.
Kingdom Hearts 4 reveals the trailer
Kingdom Hearts 4 is said to be being developed by Square Enix’s Osaka studio – the same team behind KH3 – led by co-director Yasushi Yasue. At the same event for the 20th anniversary, Kingdom Hearts director Tetsuya Nomura is said to have revealed that he was thinking of creating a real Verum Rex-based game – a fantasy video game set in the Kingdom Hearts 3 Toy Box world. The fantasy game takes place in the Quadratum, the same alternate world in which Kingdom Hearts 4 is set to take place. Nomura reportedly told attendees on Sunday that at one point he was torn between creating a real Verum Rex game and Kingdom Hearts 4, but eventually came to terms with the latter because it would be difficult to make two console games in parallel. According to Square Enix, Kingdom Hearts 4 will mark the beginning of an “epic new story” called “Lost Master Arc”. Players are introduced to the Quadratum, which Square Enix describes as “a large, expansive city in a wonderful, realistic world unlike anything seen in the Kingdom Hearts series.” “We are excited to celebrate the series’ 20th anniversary with the announcement of two new Kingdom Hears titles,” series director Ichiro Hazama said in a statement. “We would like to thank the fans for their support all these years and we look forward to experiencing everything that will follow for Sora.”
