The accident occurred on the freeway near the intersection with West Shore Parkway around 10:30 a.m., according to the BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS).
Paramedics were informed that up to 10 vehicles may have been involved in the collision. Langford Fire Rescue firefighters told CTV News they believe a total of seven vehicles were affected by the collision, including a burning car.
“The scenery looked very bad when we arrived, but fortunately everyone was out of the vehicles,” said Simon Chadwick, deputy assistant chief of the Langford Fire and Rescue Service.
Chadwick says the burning vehicle was hit by a van.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and ensure that there was no leakage of liquid from other vehicles.

BCEHS sent five ambulances to the scene, as well as a supervisor.
Five people were taken to hospital in stable condition, according to the health service.
The north lanes of the highway remained closed for about an hour as first aid arrived at the scene.
“Traffic was very bad at the time,” Chadwick said.
The north-facing lanes partially opened around 11:30 a.m., according to DriveBC.
