The man remains in hospital after the disorder, which occurred between 12.45 and 1.15. Thames Valley police are urging anyone with information to contact the force.
Investigative Officer Detective Inspector James Humphries said: “It was a major disorder that left a man seriously injured and in need of hospital treatment. We are still trying to determine the exact circumstances of what happened and therefore informing the public is vital at this stage.

“We believe that a large number of people would be witnesses to this incident and I would like to hear from anyone who has any information about the incident. In particular, many vehicles were using Oxford Road at the time and any camcorder would be beneficial.
