(File photo. Leo Crockwell in court, February 2013.) Leo Crockwell, known for fleeing RCMP during a standoff at his Bay Bulls home 12 years ago, has been arrested again. Crockwell was arrested at a gas station in Witless Bay on Friday night, charged with assaulting two Mounties and resisting arrest. He made a brief appearance in court over the weekend and again Monday afternoon by phone from the city lockup. Now 65, Crockwell has a sordid history with the law, including the December 2010 incident when he famously barricaded himself in his Bay Bulls home after a family dispute. It was the start of an eight-day armed standoff that saw him flee the home while surrounded by teams of Mounties, only to be arrested 15 hours later by the RNC. Crockwell had faced 16 charges, including attempted murder, for shooting at police officers. But after a lengthy trial that involved several hiring and firing of lawyers, he was convicted of weapons offenses and threats. In court yesterday, Crockwell was ordered to undergo an overnight psychiatric evaluation. He will be back in court this morning for the results.
