THE CANADIAN PRESS / Adrian Wyld Former Conservative deputy leader Leona Alesslev is set to formally announce her candidacy for the party’s next leader tomorrow. A source close to the campaign, speaking on condition of anonymity, said she was expected to do so in Ottawa on Wednesday. Alleslev made the announcement, in addition to being official, having set up a campaign website to collect the signatures required for her candidacy. He also posted on social media about a meeting and greeting in Ottawa on Wednesday, along with the “All in with Aleslef” tag line. Alleslev was first elected as a Liberal MP from Ontario, who crossed the floor to join the Conservatives in 2018. He was appointed deputy party leader by former leader Andrew Scheer before stepping down to help former Progressive Conservative federal leader Peter MacKay in the 2020 leadership race. Alleslev ran for re-election in last year ‘s federal campaign and lost her seat.
