Logan was found dead on July 31 last year in a river near his home in Bridget. Logan’s mother, Williamson, 31, of Lower Llansantffraid, Sarn, Bridgend, and John Cole, 40, of Maesglas’s Ynysawdre, Bridgend, deny his murder. A third defendant, who could not be named for legal reasons due to his age, also pleaded not guilty to murder and is all on trial in Cardiff Crown Court.
Prosecutors say Logan was “violently and continuously assaulted” before his death and suffered the kind of injuries usually seen in car crashes before his body was dumped in the Ogmore River. She was moved by the witness box as she told the court that during an argument on July 29, 2021, Cole said Logan smiled and said to the little boy, “You like it when your mom and I argue, you think it’s funny.” . Giving her version of what happened next while being questioned by her lawyer, Peter Rouch QC, Williamson said: “She called Logan from his bedroom … Sorry, she pulled him down the aisle and tried to talk to him. Logan I said, “Jay, leave him alone,” he said, “Enough, he has to talk to me.” “He stuttered again and Jay hit him twice in the stomach, fell on his bum and hit his elbows on the floor. I went ahead and closed the door to the kitchen. He asked [the youth] to come out of the living room into the hallway and say, “If he gets upset or stutters again, wipe him.” He did it and pushed his head to the ground. “ At this point Williamson burst into tears. Mr Rouch said: “Did Logan get back on his feet?” Williamson said, “Yes.” Mr Rouch said: “Do you know what he meant by sweeping?” Williamson said, “Yes, he wipes his feet. They once did martial arts.” Mr Rouch said: “What happened?” Williamson said:[The youth] she scanned him and pushed him to the floor as she did so. He put his hand on his head and pushed him to the ground. ” Mr Rouch asked Williamson what he was doing and she replied: “I jumped in, grabbed Logan and said, ‘Go to your room and stay there.’ She said Logan went to his room and picked up her phone because he “wanted to get help for Logan”. He added: “I wanted to go and get help for Logan, I wanted help. They exceeded the limits and harmed Logan. I said [Cole] to leave me alone. He said I needed to calm down. It fell on me and it was so scary. I wanted to get help for Logan and he would not get out of my way… .. I grabbed my feet at the baby’s gate and ran and ran “. Mr Rouch asked if Williamson wanted to leave temporarily or permanently. He said: “I wanted to leave for good, I was full”. Mr Rouch said: “Did you tell John Cole you wanted to leave permanently?” With tears in his eyes, Williamson said, “Yes, a little later… .. I said I wanted to leave and he said, ‘If we break up because of Logan, I’ll kill him.’ Logan Mwangi mother Angharad Williamson and father John Cole (Image: Athena Pictures) Williamson told the court she went to check on Logan later that night and “had a small red mark on his abdomen.” He said he gave Logan “a drink, a hug and some Calpol”. Mr. Rouch said, “Was he crying?” Williamson said, “No, he was scared.” Crying, he added: “I caressed his head, gave him a hug and told him that everything would be fine. “He fell asleep in my arms and I slept with him.” The next morning, he said, Logan was “more attached” and “wanted more attention from me.” He added: “But Jay said, ‘Stop bothering your mom.’ “Jay was always in the background.” Defendant said she fell asleep around 10.30pm on the night of July 30th – hours before Logan was reported missing. He said: “I fell asleep so fast, I was exhausted from the week we had.” Williamson said she left her phone in the living room and took off her headphones. The defendant told the court that she woke up at 5.30 am. and said he did not know that at that stage Logan’s body had been transported to the river. “I went to his room to get him a toilet and he was not there. I said ‘Jay where is he?’ And I could not find him. I was hysterical, my child was missing and nobody knew where he was.” Mr Rouch said: “We heard the 999 call and the video of the police force arriving at the scene. The prosecution suggests that what happened then was a fraud by you and a pretense. Is that true? “Williamson said:” You can not pretend such feelings. You can not pretend such feelings. “Mr. Rouch said:” How did you feel? ” Williamson said: “I was so scared and then it was true – my worst nightmare. He was gone, I did not know where he was gone, I did not know if he was safe. He was my baby boy and he was out there alone.” Williamson said later. she was told that Logan was in the river and that he had died. “I was told he was [dead] “But I did not believe them,” he said. Williamson also described being taken to HMP Eastwood Park, a women’s prison in Gloucestershire, after being accused of distorting the course of justice. He said: “I came in, I’m being bombarded by other girls. “Child killer, kill yourself before we kill you, wrong, never.” I was locked in a cell Ή I was up [the induction wing] a month because of all the death threats I was receiving… .. It was not safe, I did not leave my cell for two weeks “. Williamson was then placed in a medical ward and was on 24-hour follow-up for one month. Mr Rouch said: “Because of what you say was happening to you, did the prison authorities try to help?” Williamson said: “They can not protect you from everything, they isolated me from everyone…. They changed my name from Angharad to Angie and where I had bright pink hair, they told me to dye your hair, set some glasses, change your image, we will try to combine you as much as we can “. Williamson said she remained in the situation until she was taken to the Bristol Police Department and charged with murder. Concluding his question to his client, Mr. Rouch asked: “Have you played any role in the events that led to Logan’s death?” Crying, Williamson said, “No, I did not.” Mr Rouch said: “You told us you took your tablets at 22:00. Were you awake at night?” Williamson said, “No, I was not.” Mr Rouch said: “Did you know that John Cole carried Logan’s body?” Williamson said: “No, I was not, this was my baby and I loved it very much.” In addition to the murder charge, all three defendants are also charged with distorting justice, including transporting Logan’s body to a river near Pandy Park, removing his clothes, washing blood-stained bedding and making a false report to a missing person. Williamson and the young man pleaded not guilty to both charges, while Cole denied the murder, but admitted to distorting the course of justice. Williamson and Cole were also accused of causing or allowing the death of a child, which they both denied.
