Emergency services were called to the spot on the A9, near Alness, around 12.25pm ​​today, following reports of multiple vehicle collisions. 

Scottish police have now confirmed that the 58-year-old driver of one of the trucks was tragically found dead at the scene. The other drivers and passengers were checked by ambulance staff but did not need hospital treatment. The busy Highlands Road remains closed with special accident investigators in attendance as they try to determine the circumstances of the accident. The incident is currently affecting traffic between Tain and Dingwall. Sergeant Kate Park of the Road Police Unit said: “Our investigation into the circumstances that led to the accident is ongoing and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the driver of the truck who unfortunately lost his life.
