West Ham seal their place in the Europa League semi-finals as the turmoil of goals tames Lyon

David Moyes talks to BT. “I’m very proud of the players, their performance… and when I look back, more of their performance in the second half. I do not think many people thought we would make it tonight. We have a very good group of lads, I’m really lucky. The journey in two years, we were talking about relegation, and now we are talking about reaching the semifinals of a European tournament. It is wonderful, and we will all look forward to it. I think what we did in two years was huge. We have not won trophies yet, but we have won Sevilla and Lyon, big teams that are used to European football, and we are going again. Tonight was a great moment for us, a really good result. When we qualified last year and you could hear all the fans singing “We’re all going on a European tour”, they had a great tour. Belgium, Croatia, France tonight, we were in Spain, I’m sure they will look forward to going to Germany too! “

Declan Rice speaks on BT. “It simply came to our notice then. Very, very special. We knew it was a difficult place to come, we knew they had top individual quality. But we knew we could score tonight. It’s such a wonderful evening. It was special tonight, it was so, so good. If you can not get up for these games, you should not play football. We want to reach the final and we will give it our all “. He also mentions the amortization for the impudent closing of Dembele’s eye in the first leg, as well as some great discussion in the official Twitter stream of Lyon. It was a good night for West Ham okay. Jarrod Bowen adds: “We had to deal with a bit of pressure… and it’s a horrible score to be two goals more, because they get one and are back on it! We knew that the first 15 minutes of the second half would be great and the way they defended, for me as an attacker, the space was there. I went in and luckily I got a third! “

Eintracht Frankfurt did everything it could to get her to Camp Nou, mind you. They were ahead 3-0 in the delays and 4-1 overall, only for Sergio Busquets who made a back in the 90 minutes. Then, in the 11th minute of extra time (!) Memphis Depay scored another from the point. The whistle went off immediately after the restart, however, and Eidracht scored 4-3 overall, nonetheless.

David Moyes goes up to the away section and raises both hands triumphantly. He deserves all the applause. The situation that West Ham was in when it took over … and now look! They completely dissolved Lyon this afternoon, absorbing some pressure early on, leading a little luck perhaps, before suddenly blooming into an unstoppable force. Declan Rice, Jarrod Bowen, Craig Dawson and Pablo Fornals were probably the players who stood out in the claret, although everyone in the West Ham jersey was a star tonight. A special reason for Issa Diop, a stand-in for the injured Kurt Zouma, who booked early and then spent the rest of the night dealing with the dangerous Karl Toko Ekambi without fuss. END: Lyon 0-3 West Ham (ss: 1-4)

Lyon whistled, but it does not matter: West Ham, brilliant and brave, reached the semifinals of a major European tournament for the first time since 1976! They will meet Eintracht Frankfurt … which they won that year in the Cup Winners’ Cup! Some things are meant to be done.

        9.50 p.m. BST 21:50

90 ‘+3: Weak shot from the left side by Ekampi. Lyon had 12 European games unbeaten at home before that!

        9.48 p.m. BST 21:48

90 ‘+2: The visitors’ fans are blowing loudly. What a night they will spend!

        9.47 p.m. BST 21:47

90 minutes +1: This will be West Ham’s first away win since the Kinderminster Harriers in the FA Cup in February. And what a fight that was! Oh Lyon.

        9.46 p.m. BST 21:46

90 min: Benrahma replaces Rice. Four minutes will be added.

        9.43 p.m. BST 21:43

85 minutes: Now Fornals has been held for … not long. A waste of time, perhaps. “Craig Dawson does not mind – surely Tete must be good with his head?” mocks Gareth Neville, perhaps a distinction away from perfect silencing. But he’s been here all week. Try the chopped, french fries.

        21:40 BST 21:40

84 min: Barcola receives a yellow card for shooting down Antonio during the flight. This is the last contribution of the West Ham forward tonight, as he was replaced by Yarmolenko. N. Goodwin, meanwhile, remarks: “If Auer is ashamed of his departure, then Boss could say, ‘I owe you nothing, Auer, absolutely nothing.’ Or is this Bros? ‘ Updated at 22:17 BST

        21:39 BST 21:39

83 min: Lyon do not threaten an aftermath of a Benfica-type rattlesnake at Anfield. They are not going anywhere.

        21:37 BST 21:37

81 min: Fornals, sweeping deep into the West Ham area, finds Antonio in the middle of the line with a laser pass. Antonio steps to the right, eats the yards, eats time. He eventually wins a free kick, and even though nothing comes out, the clock strikes.

        21:35 BST 21:35

79 minutes: Another chance for Lyon, as Barcola looped deep from the right. Tete telescopes one foot on the long stick, but can only direct the ball to the side net.

        21:34 BST 21:34

78 minutes: With Lyon threatening for the first time in many years, West Ham make the first change of the night. Noble comes to strengthen things, taking the place of Lanzini.
