Jacob Gaskell, 19, of Malborough Avenue in Ince, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving after the tragic death of a woman on Friday night, April 8. He was also charged with driving while excluded from the right to drive, driving without a license or safety, causing serious injury from dangerous driving and inability to stop. The teenager was remanded in custody before a hearing in Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court later this morning, April 11. Tony Callaghan, who runs the bar, confirmed that the woman had visited the store before her death. He said to Manchester Evening News He did not know the woman’s name, but understands that “she is not from the area” and was supposed to be in Wigan for a family visit. Witnesses said they saw two young men get out of the car after the collision, with Wider Manchester Police confirming that a second man arrested in connection with the incident had now been released under investigation. Outside the bar there are tributes of flowers to the “beautiful soul” who was killed in the accident. Someone said, “A beautiful soul taken very early. I think of you and your family in this incredibly sad time.” Another said: “RIP beautiful. Thinking of your family and friends, he left very early. X”.
