David Marshall died after a fire broke out shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 12 at his home on Manse Street. He has been described by his family as a “popular local character” with a love for dogs, especially his poodles, rum and Coca-Cola. One of the dogs had died several years ago. Read more: Two men were taken to hospital after being stabbed in Lurgan The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service was called to the property following reports of a house fire with police closing the intersection of Manse Street and Cadger Street as firefighters attempted to contain the incident. Four devices were sent to the spot. Two from Knock Fire Station and one from Cadogen and Central. A NIFRS spokesman said: “The thoughts and condolences of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service are with the family and friends of a man who died in a fire on Manse Road in Carryduff. “On Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 10:17 a.m., firefighters were called to report a fire on a property on Manse Street. “Two fire engines from Knock Fire Station, 1 fire extinguisher from Central and Cadogan Fire Stations and the Special Rescue Team were present at the incident. “Firefighters were wearing respirators and used 3 jets to put out the fire. “Tragically, a man was located on the property and his death was confirmed at the scene. “The fire was brought under control at 14.10 and the causes are being investigated.” Unfortunately, David and his dog died as a result of the fire. A member of Mr Marshall’s family said he was shocked and saddened by the death of the 62-year-old. They said: “We are all very shocked to learn that David died tragically. “He was a popular local character around Carryduff and was very passionate about his two black puddles of rum and coca.” South Belfast Alliance Adviser Michelle Guy said: “The community is both shocked and saddened to hear of this horrific tragedy. “I want to express my sincere condolences to the family of the man who lost his life as they struggle to come to terms with this horrific news.” Police have confirmed that a man died as a result of a fire at a property on Manse Street. Detective Inspector Bell said: “At around 10.20am, police received a report that a fire had broken out in the property. The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service were also present. “Tragically a person was found dead on the property.” “An investigation is underway to determine the causes of the fire and our police are in the area and conducting investigations.
