The incident was described as an explosion by the head of the Preston City Council, while the police said that at the moment it is “unexplained”. Preston City Council leader Matthew Brown wrote on Twitter after the incident: “I’m really worried about the Avenham property explosion tonight. Thoughts and prayers to all those affected by what looks like an extremely serious incident.” A Lancashire police spokesman told LancsLive: “We were called around 8pm yesterday for reports of a fire at an address in Coronation Crescent, Preston.
