The Durham Constabulary launched an investigation after a report that a teenage girl was attacked by a man in Darlington Stanhope Park at around 11:30 pm yesterday (April 8). Minutes after receiving the initial call, police arrested a 21-year-old man nearby for the incident. He was taken to the police where he remains.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing and detectives are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to show up. Police want to locate three girls who were sitting on a nearby bench in the park and may have witnessed the incident. He was wearing a dark puffer jacket and hat, dark pants and sliders. A large part of the park was cordoned off on Saturday and police remained on the scene as a crime scene investigation team investigated the area, Teesside Live reported.
