According to a notice issued by Niagara Societe’s Regional Police Office on Monday, police officers were invited to Niagara Falls’ Convention Center, located on Stanley Boulevard after references that a person had tried to abduct a child.
The researchers claim that a male restaurant worker, working for a third-party vendor, completed his shift at about 11:00 pm on April 9, after which he entered the conference’s public space.
Police say a bus intervened after noticing the man approaching a nine-year-old girl and trying to remove him from the building.
The man allegedly approached a 10-year-old girl a few hours later and tried again to remove her from the building.  According to the police, the man fled after being approached by a bus.
No children were injured, police said, and both children were not known to the man.
As a result of the NRPS investigation, 19-year-old Rodney Ababio from Niagara Falls was arrested on April 10 at 2:30 pm after returning to the conference center for his shift.
He was charged with two counts of kidnapping a person under the age of 14.
Ababio was remanded in custody and appeared in a St. Louis courtroom.  Catharines on April 11th.
