Police say they were called Monday night for a report that a woman had fallen into the sea and a Nanaimos Port Authority boat found her stuck to a rope tied to a moored sailboat. The RCMP reports that the woman was hypothermic and drunk and was being treated at a local hospital. However, police say the man, believed to be the woman’s 59-year-old partner, has not appeared. A search by a Coast Guard aircraft, a port authority boat and a rescue helicopter found no signs of the man. Const. Gary O’Brien says there is no evidence that anything criminal is involved and that the man is believed to have fallen into the water and drowned.
