According to the provincial flood report released on Saturday, flood forecasters are monitoring a rainfall system that is expected to affect central and southern Manitoba, as well as parts of the Manitoba Basin in the United States, from April 12 to April 15. This rainfall system is expected to carry 30 to 80 cm of snow and could result in a combination of snow and rain. Temperatures are expected to drop below zero by April 13 and will remain below zero until April 19. The province noted that the runoff from these rains is not expected to start until April 20.
FLOOD INFORMATION
The Manitoba Flood Report reports that the Red River has peaked between Emerson and St. Adolf. However, due to ice blockage, there is a flood warning for the Red River from St. Jean Baptiste at Morris, at St. Adolphe and the Selkirk area. There is also a high water warning for the Red River from Emerson to the Red River Floodway entrance, with the exception of flood warning areas. The water level is rising on the Assiniboine River from the Shellmouth Dam to Winnipeg. The province expects the water level to peak between April 11 and 18. The Manitoba government notes that the water level is projected to remain below the bank’s capacity. Red River Floodway and Portage Diversion continue to operate.
