The Thybulle selection will cost him time to play in the post-season and could cost the Sixers the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs against Toronto.
Thybulle has been banned from Canada because unvaccinated foreign nationals are currently barred from entering the country and limited exemptions from the rule no longer apply to professional athletes.
Thybulle’s condition first became known last week when he was suddenly listed as “unfit to play” in the NBA injury report on Philadelphia’s most recent trip to Toronto.
Thybulle broke his silence on Sunday when the Sixers won the No. 4 seed and faced the Raptors fifth seed. The Sixers will play at least Games 3 and 4 of the series in Toronto. Game 1 is Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center.
“I grew up in a holistic household, where anti-vax is not like a term that has ever been used, it is a strange term that was used somewhat to simply label people,” Thybulle said. “We grew up with Chinese medicine and physiotherapists. It was with this upbringing that when I got into the condition, I felt I had a solid base of medical resources that could serve me beyond what this vaccine could do for “As things escalated and As this situation has happened, I obviously had to rethink and see it differently.”

Thybulle said he felt the need to take a shot at an unspecified spot in last year’s post-season – played in May and June due to COVID-19 – but did not take a second shot.
“I felt that if I was going to be part of society, in the position I was in, I had to do what is right for the common good,” Thybulle said. “This argument for my greatest good was very important to me. As things went on, as this virus changed in so many different ways, it showed … that even when you were vaccinated, you could transmit the disease.”
The 25-year-old was the first qualifying round in the 2019 draft, was named in the NBA second team last season and finished this season with 114 steals in 65 games (49 starts).
Coach Doc Rivers was an ardent supporter of his players receiving shots for COVD-19 and an amplifier.
“If you can get it, you have to get it,” he said earlier this season. “[We should send] any good message we can send about it by doing the right thing “.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in December that the league was about 97 percent vaccinated and nearly 65 percent strengthened.
Vaccine point of ignition in the NBA
But the vaccine became a flashpoint in the NBA this season when Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving refused to take it. The decision left him unfit to play in home games until the end of last month – 75 games per season. Irving said he “supports freedom.” Thybulle’s absence in Toronto will give veteran Danny Green an increased role, but will weaken an already slim bench. The Sixers were the No. 1 seed in last year’s playoffs, but lost three home games and dropped a series of seven second-round games in Atlanta. NBA champions Joel Embiid and James Harden were expected to take them deep into this post-season, and while Thybulle was not Philly’s most valuable player, he was valuable enough to make his absence felt.
“The right thing to do for myself”
The Raptors won their season series against Fili 3-1. “Tisse is very emotional about it. He shot, I’re just telling him I support him,” said guard Shake Milton. “I know everyone else on this team supports him, and that’s the story of this season all year long anyway. It was just next. I know we will be prepared, we will be ready and everyone is looking forward to it.” Thybulle said he understood that there were people inside the body, as well as followers, who were upset and frustrated by his decision. He said that his father taught him to make the right decision for himself, as long as he understood the consequences. “I thought deeply about all the different paths and of course I accepted that this could hurt money, contracts, reputation, but I felt that this was the right thing to do for myself,” he said. But was it right for the 76ers?
