Misa is the sixth player to receive outstanding player status in the OHL, along with John Tavares, Aaron Ekblad, Connor McDavid, Sean Day and Shane Wright. Ontario Priority Selection is on April 29th.
According to the CHL, “Extraordinary player status is granted to a player whose qualities, not only on the ice but also as an individual, are that the player deserves the rare privilege of participating in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) at a young age. “
The decision was announced Thursday and was taken by a committee consisting of members of the Ontario Hockey Federation and Hockey Canada, who evaluated Hockey’s hockey and academic credentials, while assessing his level of maturity to move forward.
“Having run this process since 2005 with John Tavares, Aaron Ekblad, Connor McDavid, Sean Day and Shane Wright, I am constantly amazed at the global nature of those who have taken a great position,” OHF Executive Director Phillip McKee said in a statement.
“His continued success both in the classroom and on the ice has proven that Michael Misa deserves to be among those who have taken office in the past.”
The 15-year-old scored 16 goals and 43 points in 27 games for Mississauga Senators U16 AAA in the regular season of GTHL. He also broke Connor McDavid’s record during the OHL Cup after scoring 21 points in seven games and becoming the tournament’s MVP.
“It is a great honor to be among such names as Connor McDavid and John Tavares who have excelled in Hockey Canada,” Misa said in a statement. “I try not to compare myself to these superstars and I just focus on being the best I can be and improving my game every day.”
“The OHL Cup was a tremendous team effort,” Misa added, considering his record-breaking performance. “We had to fight with some frustration in the playoffs and on the other hand we came out stronger as a team and we finished the work together.”
