A snow driver who was reported missing in Labrador on Sunday was found safe and sound after his avalanche stuck on a path. The man, traveling alone, left Happy Valley-Goose Bay for Hopedale on Sunday morning but did not arrive as expected. He was spotted by other snow drivers halfway between Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Postville on Sunday afternoon. Hopedale and Makkovik RCMP, along with Postville and Hopedale Ground Search and Rescue, began their search Monday morning, using snowmobiles to search a range of trails and warm shacks. The Provincial Air Services, accompanied by researchers from Makkovik Ground Search and Rescue, and the Joint Rescue Coordination Center conducted aerial searches. The man was found shortly after 8:00 p.m. on Monday from Postville Ground Search and Rescue on a trail between Postville and Northwest River, where his snowmobile had stuck. He was unharmed. Hopedale RCMP encourages snowmobilers to consider using satellite phones or SPOT devices when traveling. SPOT devices are available for free lending at Hopedale and Makkovik RCMP postings as well
