Earlier this week some chocolate Kinder Surprise eggs were recalled by the FSA due to the possible presence of salmonella. The UK Health and Safety Administration says 63 people in the UK, mostly young children, are known to be infected with salmonella in the delicacy-related outbreak. The list of recalled products now includes Kinder Mini eggs (75g) and Kinder Egg Hunt Kits (150g), with the best dates before April 20, 2022 until August 21, 2022. The Kinder Schokobons (200g) with the same best date have also been recalled. The first recall earlier this week included batches of individual Kinder Surprise 20g eggs and those available in packs of three with a best date before July 11, 2022 to October 7, 2022. The FSA said all the affected eggs were made in the same factory in Belgium. The recall comes weeks before Easter, when Ferrero was probably hoping for a boost in sales. Symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting and fever. The disease tends to subside after a few days, but the symptoms can be more severe and lead to hospitalization, especially in very young people and people with weakened immune systems.
