Mr Benjamin, a Democrat, surrendered to federal authorities on Tuesday morning, and Ms Hotsul announced shortly after 5pm that he had accepted his resignation. Mr Benjamin has pleaded not guilty to five counts of bribery, embezzlement and falsification of records.
