Provincial health officials say there are currently 1,090 patients in hospitals across Ontario with COVID-19, up from 977 on Sunday and 857 last Monday.
Of these patients, 184 are admitted to the ICU, up from 173 on Sunday and 168 a week ago.
On Mondays, the county does not publish data on the number of patients admitted to hospital for COVID and those admitted for other reasons. Hospital numbers are often lower on Mondays, as not all hospitals report data to the county earlier in the week.
Three more virus-related deaths were added to the cumulative death toll from Ontario COVID-19 today, which now stands at 12,566. These deaths occurred last month, the province says.
Another 2,401 cases of the virus have been confirmed by provincial laboratories, but that number is still significantly underestimated due to testing limitations.
Only 12,149 tests were processed in the last 24 hours, resulting in a 17.6% positivity rate, according to officials.
Of the cases confirmed today, 293 are people who have not been fully vaccinated, 489 are people with two doses of COVID-19, 1,477 are people with three doses and 142 are people with an unknown vaccination status.
The scientific director of the Ontario Scientific Advisory Board recently reported that sewage data brings the number of new daily infections in the province to about 100,000.
There are currently 137 cases of COVID-19 in long-term care homes, up from 100 seven days ago. Officials say there are now 74 cases in the province’s hospitals, up from just 40 last Monday.
The numbers used in this story are in the Ontario Department of Health’s Daily Epidemiological Summary COVID-19. The number of cases for any city or region may differ slightly from that reported by the province, as local units report data at different times.
