Health practitioners in Ottawa, Renfrew County, Eastern Ontario and Leeds County, Grenville and Lanark, along with staff at all hospitals, urge people to do four things to protect themselves, your family you and the community:
Get vaccinated with all the doses you are entitled to Limit your close contacts Wear a mask indoors Stay home if you are sick
“The level of COVID-19 in the Champlain area is on the rise,” said a statement from Champlain County health officials.
“The COVID-19 wastewater viral signal is growing in the area and is at record levels in Ottawa.” Health officials say tests across the region are “high and rising.” Ontario lowered capacity at most indoor facilities in February, and mask orders were lifted on March 21. Several public health experts have said that the government is lifting the coverage requirements very soon. Public health officials continued to encourage people to wear masks indoors. Health official Dr Vera Etz said wastewater data showed there was “more COVID-19 in the community than ever before” in Ottawa. Etches tells CTV News Ottawa that it is discussing new restrictions on COVID-19 with the Ontario government and is asking employers to encourage mask use in the workplace as COVID-19 continues to grow. The letter is signed by Dr. Etches, Renfrew County and District Health Unit Dr. Robert Cushman, Dr. Paul Roumeliotis of the Eastern Ontario Health Unit and Dr. Paula Stewart of the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit. Chiefs of staff at all hospitals in Ottawa and throughout the Champlain area also signed the letter.
