Ottawa police say an investigation shows the two students were mistreated in September 2020 while the teacher was working at an unknown Ottawa public school. Robert Bender, 48, of Ottawa, is charged with assault, harassment through threatening behavior, intimidation by threats of violence and malice. Police are concerned that there may be other victims. The Carleton County School Board of Ottawa says it has been working with Ottawa police since the investigation began. “The clerk walked away from the classroom when we became aware of concerns about his interaction with the students and did not return,” the OCDSB said Friday afternoon. “The OCDSB has also notified the Ontario College of Teachers and has undertaken an internal investigation to determine any further action in terms of employment.” Anyone with information is kindly requested to contact the Ottawa Police Department’s Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944.
