The tornado uprooted dozens of trees and tore off part of the roof at Gogarth Hall Farm in Pennal, near Machynlleth in North Wales on Wednesday. Experts at the Tornado and Storm Research Organization (TORRO) investigated the site and believe the damage was caused by a T3 tornado. It reached speeds between 93 mph and 114 mph, said researcher John Mason. The T3 is classified as a powerful tornado, with the strongest, the T10, being categorized as a super tornado with wind speeds of up to 299 mph and the power to pull entire houses off their foundations, according to the International Tornado Intensity Scale....

YELLOWKNIFE — Health care providers in the Northwest Territories are learning how to use rapid tests for syphilis in response to a territory-wide outbreak of the sexually transmitted disease. NWT’s Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Kami Kandola, recently received special access from Health Canada to use the tests, which await formal federal approval. The infectious disease specialist Dr. Ameeta Singh recently oversaw a 19-month clinical trial of rapid dual syphilis and HIV tests in Alberta....

There are now 230 confirmed cases in Ontario, up from 156 on July 14, 133 on July 11 and 101 on July 6. Public Health Ontario says all but one of the confirmed cases are in men and 172 of the confirmed cases so far involve Toronto residents. There are eight other possible cases in the province that remain under investigation. Elsewhere in Ontario, Ottawa now reports 16 confirmed cases, Halton reports 7, Middlesex-London reports 9 and Hamilton reports 5 confirmed cases....
