House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tested positive for COVID-19, according to her office, marking the first time the Democratic leader had contracted the virus after two years of chanting strict coronavirus protocols in Parliament.
Her spokeswoman made the announcement Thursday as Pelosi, 82, was due to give a weekly press conference at the US Capitol.
“After coming out negative this week, speaker Pelosi tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently asymptomatic,” Drew Hamill wrote on Twitter. “The speaker is fully vaccinated and enhanced and is grateful for the strong protection provided by the vaccine.”
