The woman said she was raped by an unknown man in Leazes Park, near the basketball / tennis courts near the Leazes Crescent entrance, on Friday, April 1, at about 6:30 p.m.  Northumbria police have now launched an investigation and the victim has been offered support by specially trained police officers. 

Extensive investigations are ongoing, including the CCTV review, to identify the culprit and additional patrols have been carried out. Today (Friday) officers asked for the help of the public and issued a description of the perpetrator given by the victim. He spoke well with a local accent. He was wearing a gray jogger and a gray leather jacket with a fur collar, over a dark blue Nike T-shirt with a large white teak. He was also carrying a large green backpack with black stripes. Chief Inspector Alan Kerns confirmed that additional police patrols were being carried out in the area and urged anyone with information about the attack to report. “This is an extremely difficult time for the victim, and I want to begin by praising her bravery for showing up,” said DCI Cairns. “We will continue to support it in any way we can. “Our officers are working tirelessly to find the person in charge, conducting a series of investigations and now we are appealing to anyone who lives in the area, uses the park frequently or thinks he may have information to announce.
