Police say the officer was searching for a missing person in the 53rd Division on February 17, when he took possession of the person’s belongings as part of the investigation.
It is alleged that the police officer then handed over a debit card belonging to the missing man to another man, who in turn used it to make a purchase at a store in Mississauga.
It is also alleged that the policeman and the other man fraudulently acquired motor vehicles.
Policeman Boris Borisov, 48, was arrested on Monday and charged with several counts of theft, fraud and breach of trust.
Police say Borisov, who has served in the body for 16 years, has been suspended for a fee under police law.
He is scheduled to appear in court to respond to the criminal charges on May 27.
