A witness praised the heroic attempt to rescue the men after the big accident on the highway near Goole on Wednesday morning. The serious crash closed the M62 for several hours. Motorist Paul Jackson was on the highway when he spotted the “heroes” rushing to pull the young female passenger from the cab of the truck after it collided with a car in the wagon heading east, causing a vehicle to ignite. According to the witness who stopped at the spot to help, the car was engulfed in flames that had spread to the truck. Speaking to The Yorkshire Post, Paul, a former soldier, said: “The truck was on fire and the two men broke the window and pulled this girl out – she was about 12 or 13 years old. People were running towards the back of the car, which was on fire. “The truck had been stabbed with a jack and they had to claim the trailer to get to the cabin. They saved her life. The fire engulfed the truck.” The condition of the driver of the truck is currently unknown and Humberside police have not yet informed if anyone was seriously injured. Police are at the scene of the collision throughout the day, with the carriage facing east remaining open until nightfall. Paul added: “I checked her head as there was a lot of blood, then put her in a recovery position and asked her to be removed from the spot.
