(Photo by the New York National Guard via Flickr.) Public Health has contacted the county’s regional health authorities to implement a plan to offer a fourth dose of COVID vaccine to some of the county’s most vulnerable citizens. The National Immunization Advisory Committee (or NACI) recommends a fourth dose of the COVID vaccine to people over the age of 80 and to people in long-term care settings.
NACI also made the discretionary recommendation to offer a second aid to 70-year-olds and those living in indigenous communities. The Director of the Health Medical Service, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that they are working on a plan to offer fourth installments to vulnerable groups. He says the NACI is making the recommendation given the current epidemiology and the fact that vaccine protection is declining over time and that plans are under way to meet those recommendations. Meanwhile, the county is awaiting possible recommendations for a booster vaccine for people ages 12 to 18.
