A California highway patrol chased a driver suspected of a deadly gun attack in the western San Fernando Valley on Wednesday afternoon. A chasing driver wanted for a deadly gun attack jumped from the moving vehicle and ran through the bushes in an attempt to escape. Spoiler alert: It does not escape. April 13, 2022. Newschopper4 ended the chase starting at 1:22 p.m. The driver was driving a stolen silver Toyota 4runner SUV, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The chase started on Highway 170 and then moved to the surface roads before jumping back on Highway 170. Until 1:27 p.m. the driver was driving on Highway 14, recklessly driving on the way to Palmdale. The high-speed chase did not include ground units at first, but a police helicopter followed the SUV traveling between 70 and 80 mph in the slow lane of the highway at speeds of up to 125 mph as it crawled around cars and large platforms. At one point the driver passed another car on the left shoulder of the highway at speeds close to 125 mph. The driver often passed other cars very close, even though there was a lot of space around the highway. The CHP stopped the chase around 1:30 pm, due to the incredibly high speeds and reckless driving. The driver continued to drive recklessly despite the absence of police units on the ground and in the air, and even fell on a highway sign on a ramp. The driver continued after at least two CHP units as he was speeding down Highway 14, before exiting at Santiago Street. The car then lurked under an overpass as CHP vehicles continued north on Highway 14. The car then began traveling west down Santiago Street, then south into the Sierra Highway. The driver at one point pulled on a dirt road and looked out of the driver’s window at the news helicopters hovering overhead for quite some time as two unmarked CHP vehicles caught the 4runner. The driver then took off again, eventually heading north on Highway 14 towards Acton, resuming the chase with the CHP. The NewsChopper4 was traveling at 110 mph and was still behind the car – meaning the car could easily reach speeds of up to 115 mph. This is a story that unfolds. Check again for updates.
