Although the 51-year-old Osman, who has co-hosted the show with Alexander Armstrong since 2009, is leaving the main show, he will continue to host the upcoming Pointless Celebrities series and his BBC Two show, Richard Osman’s House of Games. Armstrong will continue to host the quiz, with a number of guest presenters replacing Osman. Commenting on his departure, Osman said: “The pointless was fine from start to finish, working alongside my friend Alexander Armstrong, with the support of the most wonderful team and the best viewers in the world. I will miss them all so much, but I’m excited to continue presenting celebrity shows. “I can not thank everyone enough for 12 amazing years.” SOME NEWS! After 13 wonderful years, I leave Daytime Pointless to concentrate on writing. He will continue to do celebrity shows and “HouseOfGames”. It was the BIGGEST pleasure and I can’t wait to start watching it as a spectator. Thank you all! ❤️ – Richard Osman (@richardosman) April 8, 2022 The whole team will be missing, especially the incomparable @XanderArmstrong. Thanks to everyone watching, it was truly a dream, and I know the show will continue to go from strength to strength. – Richard Osman (@richardosman) April 8, 2022 In a tweet, Osman said his departure was due in part to the success of his crime novels, The Thursday Murder Club and The Man Who Died Twice. The film’s rights to the former have been acquired by Steven Spielberg’s production company, Amblin Entertainment. Tamara Gilder, the creative director of Remarkable Entertainment, the production company that produces Pointless, said that Osman was a big part of Pointless and the success of the series. “We’ll be sorry we do not have him on the agenda, but we’m very happy that he will continue to be a member of the Pointless family, presenting our celebrity bids, and will continue to host the House of Games.” Pointless series 26, which aired in January, had a top audience of 2.8 million viewers and was the No. 1 daily quiz and BBC One game show in 2021 and 2022. In Pointless, members of the public compete for a cash prize by finding correct but vague answers to four rounds of general knowledge questions. Osman was not originally intended to be Armstrong’s co-presenter, but after completing the role as part of a BBC show, executives asked him to continue for the front row after seeing the chemistry between the couple. The program moved from BBC Two to BBC One after two successful years.
