For context, earlier this month a judge issued a restraining order against the singer under Puerto Rico’s domestic violence law. It was not clear who originally requested the order, but reports that the petitioner “feared for his safety” after ending a seven-month relationship with Ricky hit the media.

Then, this weekend, Ricky’s brother identified the petitioner as his nephew. “Ricky Martin, of course, has never been – and never will be – involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew,” Ricky’s lawyer said in a statement to Variety at the time.

Earlier today, Ricky actually appeared in court. His attorneys then released a statement that read: “As we anticipated, the temporary protection order was not extended by the Court.”

“The prosecutor confirmed to the court that his decision to dismiss the matter was solely his own, without outside influence or pressure, and the prosecutor confirmed that he was satisfied with his legal representation in the matter.”

The statement concluded, “The request came from the accuser asking for the case to be dismissed. This was never more than a troubled individual making false allegations with absolutely nothing to back them up. We are glad our client has seen justice and can now to move on with his life and career.”

In a video obtained by TMZ, Ricky himself added, “For two weeks, I wasn’t allowed to defend myself because I was going through a process where I was required by law not to speak until I was in front of a judge.”

“It was so painful. It was devastating for me, for my family, for my friends. I don’t wish this on anyone,” he continued, thanking the online support. “My priority is to heal. How can I heal? With music. I can’t wait to get back on stage, I can’t wait to get back in front of the cameras and have fun.”

Ricky is currently being sued for $3 million by his former manager for unpaid “significant commissions.” Court documents refer to an alleged “career-ending complaint” that Ricky was threatened with in September 2020. He has requested a jury trial.
