The registered nurses’ union says some “innovative solutions” have been found that we hope will offer some short-term relief to its members this summer. Union President Yvette Kofi made the remarks as she was accompanied by the prime minister and health minister at the Confederation Building on Tuesday. The solutions came from a two-day so-called Nursing Think Tank this week, which included reviews by the four regional health authorities, their managing directors and health department executives. Coffey says she will meet with the government again in about two weeks and the short-term request will be simple. That is, within the next month, initiatives will be approved that will guarantee nurses the basic opportunity to take some time this summer. Other issues raised during this week’s meetings included childcare, maintenance bonuses, and the ability to self-plan for leisure.
