Dmitry Peshkov, a spokesman for Vladimir Putin, said the Russian president was not afraid of being prosecuted for war crimes because Moscow did not see such a trial as a “realistic” possibility. In a controversial interview with Sky News, Mr. Peshkov denied allegations that Russian forces had committed atrocities in Ukraine, but acknowledged that “we have significant troop losses and it is a huge tragedy for us.” In the lengthy exchange of views, Mr. Peshkov was generally left out of the Moscow debate when confronted with reports of atrocities committed by Russian troops against civilians. “We live in days of lies and lies,” he said. When they showed satellite images and other evidence of attacks on civilians, including the targeting of a hospital, Mr. Peshkov continued to insist that the images were fake.
