Russian forces destroyed an ammunition depot and two aircraft at Myrhorod air base in central Ukraine, Reuters reported, citing Russian sources. Writing on his Telegram channel, the head of Poltava Regional Military Command, Dmitry Lunin, confirmed that there was a Russian attack that resulted in “significant damage” and that two people were injured, but did not give further details. Reuters reports that a MiG-29 fighter jet of the Ukrainian Air Force and a Mi-8 helicopter were destroyed in the attack, according to ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov, according to the independent Russian news service Interfax. The website also reports that Konashenkov said another ammunition depot was destroyed near Novomoskovsk, 124 miles east of Myrhorod. Ukraine is preparing for a new Russian attack on Donbass on its eastern border, following the failure of Putin’s troops to occupy Kyiv. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba told NATO members on Thursday that “the battle for Donbass will remind you of World War II,” Kuleba said. He used this warning to call on Western allies to provide more heavy weapons, including air defense systems, artillery, armored vehicles and jets. Due to the increased bombardment, Ukrainian officials urged citizens to evacuate their homes in the eastern parts of the country. A Russian rocket attack hit a train station in eastern Ukraine on Friday, full of people who had fled their homes. More than 50 people were killed. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a rally in Kramatorsk, a town in Donetsk, which also houses pro-Russian separatist forces. Donetsk is part of the Donbas region.
