West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, a key Democrat in the equally divided Senate, says it is vital for the United States and Canada to partner on energy security to support global demand. Kenney says Manchin’s visit to Alberta contributes to the province’s resources and strengthens greater co-operation between the two countries. Both politicians have expressed frustration with the completion of the Keystone XL pipeline project, which was canceled by US President Joe Biden last year on his first day in the White House. Manchin says he’s not sure if the project will be resurrected, but adds that it would be foolish if it were not. Earlier, Prime Minister Justin Trindade said the decision on the pipeline’s fate rested with the United States. He also said his liberal government would continue to support Canada as an energy partner for the South, with traditional and renewable resources.
