A serious multi-vehicle collision that closed several intersections in Vancouver on Tuesday night led to the arrest of a Surrey fugitive. Vancouver police say an officer was patrolling near Main St and Terminal Ave when he stopped traffic, according to a media release Wednesday morning. Behind the wheel was a 29-year-old man from Surrey with 10 warrants across Canada, including charges of firearms and drug trafficking. The driver allegedly fled the vehicle, hitting several other cars before colliding with a building near Quebec Street and East 2nd Avenue, according to the Vancouver Police Department. Vehicle spare parts and debris were scattered all over the road and multiple receipts were placed in the middle of the road. Police closed multiple intersections along E 2nd Avenue, including Manitoba, Ontario and Main Streets. Investigators were investigating the scene and Vancouver police urged the public to avoid the area. After the collision, the suspect had abandoned his vehicle, but was arrested a short distance away by a Vancouver K9 police officer. Three people traveling in vehicles involved in the accident were taken to hospital after being hit by the fugitive driver. A 34-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman suffered head injuries and suspected internal injuries when he was hit at the Mercedes intersection heading east. A 20-year-old woman was less seriously injured when her vehicle was hit, the VPD describes. The suspect was taken to hospital for treatment after being arrested by a police dog. The Office of Independent Investigations of the CoE was notified.
